We’ve talked about having liner lust before – because for some of us, applying eyeliner is a natural gift and for others it’s the most daunting task around. So daunting, in fact – it’s a step that’s often avoided…..resulting in a serious case of liner lust. If you know you want to wear liner or you want to step up your liner game with a more complex winged look, all you need is a few steps to walk you through – and trust me – you’ll have it down in no time.Ready to break into the land of liner? Here we go:
Basic Liner in four steps:
- Create a blank canvas on your lids by applying a bit of concealer and a very light dusting of translucent powder.
- If you’re using a pencil liner, you’ll want to soften the tip just a bit – you can do this by rolling it between your thumb and pointer finger for just a bit. If you’re using gel or liquid liner, you’re set to go.
- Play connect the dots. Getting as close as you can to the lash line on your upper lid, draw small dashes or dots all along the line until you get from one side to the other. Now go back and use your liner to gently connect the dots until you have a smooth (and straight) line.
- Use a cotton swab to blend and soften the line or correct any mistakes you made. Just dip the swab in a bit of makeup remover and gently remove any excess liner.
Easier than you thought, right? Now that you’ve got the straight line down, how about getting a bit more advanced with a slight wing?
- Same as above: Create a blank canvas on your lids by applying a bit of concealer and a very light dusting of translucent powder.
- If you’re using a pencil liner, you’ll want to soften the tip just a bit – you can do this by rolling it between your thumb and pointer finger for just a bit. If you’re using gel or liquid liner, you’re set to go.
- Starting at the outer corner of your upper lid, draw a small line at an upward angle.
- Next, you’ll want to draw another line connecting the top of your angled line to your lash line (basically this will look like a small triangle).
- Fill in the triangle with liner.
- Now, use the steps you learned above to connect your lash line and the little triangle you drew. Starting from the bottom of the triangle, apply liner across your lash line as you normally would, creating a smooth line where the triangle and your lash line connect.
- Use a cotton swab to blend and soften the line or correct any mistakes you made. Just dip the swab in a bit of makeup remover and gently remove any excess liner.
