The Beauty Benefits of Caffeine

Anyone out there a coffee lover? A quick cup of coffee with that little but of caffeine will certainly get your day going off to the right foot, and as it turns out – caffeine boasts a whole bunch of beauty benefits too. There’s always been questions about whether or not coffee and caffeine are good for you, but just like anything else out there – everything in moderation, right?

“Caffeine has been shown to constrict blood vessels,” explains Cheryl Karcher, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. Because of this, she says, it’s possible that applying caffeine-enhanced products to trouble spots may temporarily reduce swelling and contribute to the appearance of, say, a tighter tummy, skinnier thighs, or less puffy under-eye circles. The Beauty Benefits of Caffeine

From glowing skin to shiny hair, here’s a look at some of the beauty benefits of caffeine:

Want to lessen those dark under eye circles that drive you mad?

“Under eye dark circles can be caused by various factors such as dehydration, allergies, lack of sleep or genetics. Caffeine cannot cure hereditary dark circles. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial in reducing puffiness and inflammation associated with dark circles. Caffeine also reduces the accumulation of blood under your eyes which contributes to dark shadows.

Eye creams meant to erase dark circles contain caffeine. Tea leaves contain caffeine. So you can apply moist tea bags under your eyes for 5 minutes to reduce dark circles and puffiness.” (via Stylecraze)

How about keeping your youthful look with young and glowing skin?

“Free radicals are responsible for causing premature skin aging. This results in the appearance of wrinkles, sun spots and loss of elasticity. The antioxidants contained in caffeine can attack these free radicals and eliminate them. This will improve the overall look of your skin. For this reason, caffeine is widely used in anti-ageing day and night creams in conjunction with retinol.” (via Stylecraze) That’s pretty incredible – just your regular routine moisturizer with a touch of caffeine, could be contributing to keeping your skin looking great.

And, the benefits continue, “a 2012 Harvard University study also found that people who drink at least three cups of caffeinated coffee daily have a lower risk of skin cancer than those who drink less than one cup a month.” (via How Stuff Works)

And, what about maintaining your strong and shiny hair?

Besides strengthening the hair shaft, caffeine products add natural shine to your hair and make them more manageable. According to Huda Beauty, “all you need to do is use Organic (if available) black coffee, then drench your hair in it and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wash and condition as usual and BAMM, super shiny hair! Coffee gets rid of frizz, adds shine, and removes buildup within minutes.”

What do you think, will you start adding a bit of caffeine to your beauty routine?
