If women realized how common dandruff was, maybe they’d be more open to discussing it publicly. The stigma might’ve started because many people considered dandruff only happened to unhygienic people who weren’t washing their hair enough. But that is simply not true. According to a study from the University of Illinois-Chicago, School of Medicine, it is estimated that about 50 percent of people in Western Europe and North America suffer from dandruff. Although it affects mostly people with oily skin, anyone can get dandruff at any time.
Since it’s that time of year when we can’t avoid the topic due to the cold weather, I want to get some important information out there to anyone that has an issue with flakes. I recently spoke to Dermatologist Francesca Fusco about what we’ve been doing wrong and what to look for when buying a product to help solve your problems.
“The biggest concern my patients have with dandruff solutions is that they find them drying, harsh and medicinal – they know it serves a purpose, but to them, it’s a treatment,” Dr. Fusco explained. You know those medicated treatments on the market that she’s talking about. They usually smell pretty terrible and although they help to get rid of dandruff, they tend to leave hair looking rather dull.
Dr. Fusco is working with Dove as their hair expert dermatologist in support of the brand’s newest product, the DermaCare Dandruff Collection that combines your need to eliminate flakes but also nourishes your hair. It is formulated with Active Pyrithione Zinc to treat dandruff and it features a blend of oils that helps nourish and protect the scalp.
“For me, a daily solution that women will want to use is a priority, so that I can rest assured that they are taking the best care of their scalp at home,” she explained. “Dove DermaCare is the perfect way to ensure that my patients aren’t compromising on the look and health of their hair while also getting a highly effective dandruff treatment.”
Also noted in the University of Illinois-Chicago study is how dandruff is more common in men than in women! So ladies, feel free to share products from the Dove DermaCare Collection with the special men in your life too.
