Carrying around a baby bump can feel like strength training in itself. But if you’re an expectant mom, staying fit is important to your health as well as the baby’s. So it’s ok to indulge now and then, but eating for two is definitely not the right idea. And though the impulse may be to sit or rest whenever possible (and who could blame you!), getting a little daily exercise will do wonders for you when the big day comes and will help you bounce back faster after your little one is here. Here are some exercise options that will keep you feeling great throughout those long nine months.
Exercises for Expectant Moms
Yoga – Yoga will help you stay flexible throughout your pregnancy. Combined with walking or swimming, this is a great way to stay active. After labor, you can continue the practice by doing “Mommy & Me” yoga with your little one.
Walking – Walking is an excellent way to keep your heart healthy throughout the entire pregnancy without hurting any joints or ligaments due to the weight of your belly. Wear comfortable shoes that offer support.
Swimming – Swimming is an excellent all-over body workout for moms-to-be. You’ll get cardiovascular exercise as well as tone your muscles. Plus, it will be really nice to feel weightless for a bit. 🙂
Dancing – This is a fun way to stay fit and healthy. Turn up the music and dance in your living room like nobody’s watching. Just be sure to steer clear of any jumping, spinning or thumping. Your center of gravity tends to be a little off once that bump takes over your figure.
Stretching – Some basic stretching can help you feel more relaxed before and after a workout – or even on its own in the morning. Do some light stretching before any cardio to keep your muscles limber.
Weight Training – If you’re already doing some strength training, then it will be easy to carry that out throughout your pregnancy. However, you should consider lightening the weight to avoid putting any strain on your belly. Have a seat and take it slow when doing this and you should be able to enjoy it throughout the whole nine months.
