If you aren’t concerned about this year’s flu season, just turn on the news and I’m sure it will change your mind. It seems like everyone (and I mean everyone) it feeling under the weather and it isn’t just the post-holiday blues. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that the 2013 flu season could be one of the worst we’ve seen in a decade.
With packed emergency rooms and tens of thousands of cases already reported, here’s what you can do to stay healthy during the flu outbreak.
Flu 2013: Stay Healthy During the Sick Season
- Get vaccinated! “We strongly encourage people to get vaccinated, and we’d like them to do that as soon as possible. The current batch of flu vaccines appear to be a good match for this year’s flu.” Dr. Michael Jhung, a CDC flu expert told Reuters.
- Wash your hands.
- Skip the alcohol and sugary, fatty food.
- Up your water intake.
- Stock up on vitamins like zinc and vitamin C, plus lots of garlic.
- Disinfect all surfaces (home, car, desk) on a regular basis.
- Sleep and make sure to get even more extra rest if you feel any of those telltale aches and pains.
