With all the working out we do – not to mention sticking to a healthy diet – our tummies should be flat as boards, right? If you find yourself knocking out the crunches, while mainly crunching on celery sticks and your midsection still doesn’t look quite as tight as you wish, you aren’t alone! There are many women out there struggling with the same issue: getting those perfectly flat abs is tougher than it looks. Well, the struggle is over – let’s get that happy belly with these 5 ways to getting a flatter tummy.
- Choose healthy fats. While that may sound like a trick – it’s actually not! It’s recommended that healthy fats should make up at least 20-30% of your total calories each day – and you can make that happen by incorporating avocado, nuts, eggs, reduced-fat sour cream and healthy oils into your daily nutrition plan.
- The combo of lean proteins and strength training will give you the ripped abs you’re after. Try adding a new weight-lifting routine to your weekly exercise plan, while adding non-fat yogurt, smoothies (with protein powder) or lean meats and egg whites into your diet plan.
- Chew your food! Sounds crazy, right? It’s not. Thoroughly chewing food actually prevents bloating. The digestive process actually begins in your mouth and good digestion starts by chewing food. Good digestion = less bloating and reduced levels of gas.
- Focus on a full body workout, not just your abs. It may seem contrary, but belly fat is about excess fat all over the body – and that means giving your whole body a challenge. Burning calories from head-to-toe will help reduce all-over body fat and will help achieve those washboard abs you’re after. Try circuit training and other full-body routines like yoga and Pilates.
- Don’t worry about counting every single calorie and put your focus on whole grains, leafy greens, fruits and lean proteins. High-nutrition and low calories means you’ll feel full without putting your waistline at risk.
