Insecurities – we all have them. For the majority of us, our insecurities originate from certain features which make us feel less attractive. Status, intelligence, and wealth can also cause us to feel self-conscious. On a deeper level, insecurities often manifest due to lack of confidence in our own abilities, and feelings of not being good enough.
How to Banish Your Insecurities
#1. Banish Your Inner Critic
Find constructive ways to blow those insecure feelings out of the water when you feel them creeping into your mind. Recite positive affirmations, throw on an outfit you fabulous in or simply tell your brain to stop with this nonsense.
#2. Know Your Triggers
Write down what makes you feel self-conscious. Once you have a list of your triggers, you can write actions you can take to minimize these feelings. For example, if you’re insecure about your smile, book a consultation with an orthodontist to discuss your smile makeover options. Life’s too short to be unhappy about things we can change.
#3. Change Your Thoughts
Insecurities often stem from the concern that others will confirm our negative self-talk. Change the way you speak to yourself. Altering the aspects of you that make you self-conscious is the easy part. Once those things change, you won’t feel happy-ever-after until you learn to adjust the way you speak to yourself. You have to transform how you feel on the inside too; learn to embrace your flaws and love yourself for who you are. Some of the hottest fashion models of the moment should remind us that beauty is no longer perceived to be perfection; the models with what we all once considered ‘flaws’ own the runway.
#4. Change Your Circle
Spending time with people socially doesn’t make them your friends. If somebody in your inner circle, or perhaps even someone you’re dating, is making you feel insecure, it’s time to address why? If they’re purposefully making comments to put you down, cut them out of your life; they’re toxic! If you feel insecure because you don’t feel worthy of someone’s love, the problem is within you, and only you can fix it.
