Hair removal is definitely one of those necessary evils many of us choose to endure for smoother, cleaner-looking skin. But the results aren’t without their share of suffering. As they say, beauty is pain. But it doesn’t always have to be. Whether you choose to wax, tweeze, laser or thread, there are some steps you can take to make the experience less painful. Read ahead for seven beauty tips for those who choose to be smooth and hairless.
How to Make Hair Removal Less Painful
Create a diversion – Talking to the esthetician who is performing these services on you can distract your mind from the pain. Focus on the conversation instead of the process. Choose a topic too juicy to steer away from to really get through it.
Listen to Music – If conversation with the therapist isn’t doing the trick, try plugging in some ear buds and listening to your favorite songs to distract your brain while she does her job.
Take a pain reliever – Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as aspirin or ibuprofen may help subdue the pain. Take it anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes before the treatment to allow it to kick in.
Ice it – Apply ice to the skin just before performing the process to numb it. Be sure to begin numbing as close to the treatment time as possible for maximum impact.
Take a steamy bath – Open your pores just before removing hair by taking a steamy bath or shower with warm water. Doing this will allow the hair follicle to eject more easily.
Apply pressure – Quickly apply pressure to the area to soothe irritated nerves. Gently press down and wait for the stinging shock to subside.
Soothe – Use a soothing balm like Aloe Vera gel or a similar calming lotion to reduce redness, swelling and irritation.
