Last week, the ladies at BellaSugar called out Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester for her unflattering lip choice worn to a Harry Winston event in New York. Purple lipstick is totally in, but picking the right color is just half the battle.
We love Meester, but let’s help you not make the same mistakes.
Just say no to shimmer
As I mention in my article for Happi, you’ll want to stay away from shimmer and gloss this season. Instead, choose a matte tone lipstick. This metallic color Meester is wearing just seems a little MAC circa ’99.
Apply correctly
One of the biggest secrets to wearing bold lips is in the way you apply it. Most of us are used to grabbing lipstick and just smearing it along our lips. When it comes to deep tones, you want to dap it on lightly then use a lip brush or your finger to smudge.
Show some love to your eyes
Even though purple lips will draw some attention, you don’t want to forget your eyes. Notice that Meester looks a little baggy-eyed and tired.And it doesn’t have to be super dramatic. Some soft browns (eyeliner and shadow) and black mascara will make a world of difference.
Last tip: own your look! There’s nothing sexier than confidence.
