Have you ever found yourself in a stressful situation, like a job interview for example, and suddenly your memory just seems to go blank? You can’t remember simple things, like the year you graduated from college or the name of your last supervisor. As it turns out stress even has the ability to affect memory function. In a moment of high stress or during times of ongoing stress, your brain function can become sort of limited.

While it’s tough to control those moments of high stress, we can take steps to stop ongoing stress. No more losing the car keys or forgetting where you know someone from– it’s time to nip this and get stress under control. If stress is affecting your memory, here’s a quick guide to stop it in its tracks!

Is Stress Affecting Your Memory?

  • Opt for a healthy diet. Feeding your brain with healthy, nutritious foods  will keep it at its highest function. Try incorporating lean proteins and lots of leafy greens.
  • Write it down! Sometimes writing things down helps to organize all the thoughts in your head. Maybe a big project at work is a source of stress – write down everything you need to do to complete the project. Seeing the steps will help put it all into perspective.
  • Get to the root of the problem. When stress is affecting your memory, it’s gone too far. It’s time to take a look at why you have the stress in the first place.
  • Get some exercise – but don’t stress about it! Exercise for the joy and feel good part – not because you have to.
