Facial steaming is a great way to open pores and purge the skin of toxins, product build-up, dirt, oil, and sweat that otherwise clog pores and cause outbreaks. Steaming relaxes the muscles in your face, stimulates collagen and elastin production, and prepares the skin for deeper penetration of products.
Pore Perfection: How to Do Facial Steaming Right
If you suffer from oily skin, facial steaming helps remove excess oil and softens blackheads. Like with everything health and beauty, there are some important do’s and don’t to follow when steaming your face.
Step 1:
Use a gentle exfoliator to polish away dead skin cells. I swear by my Lumière de Vie® Volcanic Exfoliating Mask.
Step 2:
Cleanse to remove any remaining traces of dirt, oil, or debris.
Step 3:
Hold your face over a bowl of steaming water for 10 minutes with a towel over your head.
TIP: If you suffer from skin sensitivity or rosacea, hold your head further away from the steam and limit time to no more than 5 minutes.
Step 4:
Cleanse face with warm water to remove all of the purged dirt, oil, and sweat from the skin’s surface.
Step 5:
If you suffer from oily or acne-prone skin, use a blackhead vacuum suction remover or remover tools to remove any remaining debris from your pores. A second option is to hold tissue and gently squeeze problem areas to extract any blockages and help prevent further breakouts. Be mindful to be gentle – squeezing too hard can scar the skin.
Step 6:
Cleanse skin and tone to leave pores squeaky clean. Apply a face mask for your skin type to detoxify or hydrate, depending on your skin’s requirements. I adore the Lumière de Vie® Moisture Intense Sheet Masque to revitalize my skin for a youthful, dewy glow.
