Independence Day is all about celebrating the birth of American independence with parades, fireworks, family gatherings and barbecues. There are a few ways to prevent and cure the aftermath of a few too many alcoholic beverages.
Prevention and Cure: How to Tackle the Independence Day Hangover
PREVENTION:
#1. Eat before indulging.
Fill up on healthy fats and protein to line your stomach.
#2. Stick to clear liquors.
Darker liquors contain more congeners and toxins. Stick to clear alcohol like gin and vodka. Avoid sugary drinks at all costs.
#3. Hydrate!
Try and drink water frequently in-between drinks, especially if you’re spending the day outside soaking up the sun.
#4. Post-drink ritual.
Before you go to bed, drink at least a pint of water and try and eat so that you have food in your stomach to soak up the alcohol. Your future self will thank you tomorrow.
CURE:
Everyone reacts differently to alcohol, but there are a few rules to follow to help stop a hangover in its tracks.
#1. Hello, hydration!
As soon as you wake up, drink a pint of water. Hydrate heavily throughout the entire day. Add fresh lemon to help support your liver and speed up the detoxification process.
#2. Eat well.
Salty food helps reduce nausea and dizziness. A couple of ibuprofen post-breakfast helps reduce swelling and headaches.
#3. Sweat it out.
A cardio session helps sweat out toxins. A swim in the pool is equally beneficial – and refreshing, too!
