Lately, I have heard more and more women in their late 20’s and 30’s complaining about issues with acne. If you find that you have been struggling with blemishes more often than ever, you aren’t alone. While there’s really no good reason behind this crazy surge in adult women dealing with acne issues, there is new research that lays some of the blame on diet.
Jennifer Burris, MS, RD, co-author of a study by the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says that, “More recent research has really started to instigate the diet-acne connection.” She also said, that “though a poor diet can’t cause acne, it certainly isn’t going to help it.”
Struggling with Adult Acne? You Aren’t Alone.
According to the study and Dr. Burris, there really isn’t a magic solution to make acne go away quickly. It’s a slow process and if you can start incorporating healthy choices into your diet over time, it just may help. Diets that are skin-friendly are low in sweets, processed foods and dairy. Avoiding milk and making nutritious choices like whole grain bread vs. white bread are great habits to get into. While these changes won’t happen overnight, your skin will thank you for the healthy lifestyle change.
