Sunday Scaries: How Not to Waste Your Weekend

The weekend flies by, and those sly Sunday Scaries sneak up on you once your mind starts to wander and contemplate how much you have to do tomorrow. I must confess that I probably work nearly every single day of the year, including weekends, but I certainly don’t waste my weekend worrying. Why? I organize my time so that I can ease my foot off the gas over the weekend so that I can slow down a little for a couple of days.

Get your ducks in a row.

Before leaving your workplace on Friday, work ahead and get things ready for Monday morning. You will feel so much less anxious over the weekend knowing your Monday is organized and hassle-free. Trust me. When you get home, get your clothes ready for Monday. Once these items are done, you can skip into the weekend care-free.

Think positive.

Don’t allow the Sunday Scaries to cast a dark shadow over your whole Sunday. Remind yourself why you work. If you didn’t get paid, you wouldn’t be able to pay your bills, buy food or do anything fun. Focus on why you have the Sunday Scaries – whatever’s causing it, fix it. Putting in 100% effort at work and organizing your time management are effective methods in reducing workplace anxiety. If you dread Monday because you hate your job, you know what you need to do.

It’s the little things in life…

Take time out to do the little things that make you happy today. Go to your favorite coffee for your favorite spirit-lifting beverage, organize a spontaneous brunch with your BFF, or binge watch your favorite TV shows while indulging in a DIY pamper day. Do whatever makes you feel good and those Sunday Scaries will soon melt away.

Burn off your nervous energy.

Submerging yourself in nature via a long walk or bike ride helps fade out feelings of anxiety, and releases those feel-good endorphins.

Make time to wind down.

Take a long, hot bubble bath, slip into your favorite comfy clothes and immerse yourself in a riveting book to enjoy a relaxing evening.
