When it comes to skincare, there’s really nothing more important – right? From keeping everything moisturized to making sun protection your number one priority – there are some cardinal rules when it comes to caring for your skin. Whether you’re routine typically includes a little soap and water or you have more of an extensive daily process, here’s a look at what you should be doing to care for your skin.
The Cardinal Rules of Skincare
Wash your face, every night. This is an easy one to skip – you’re tired, you’ve had a long day or you stayed out just a little too late. All you want to do is fall into bed….totally understandable! But stop yourself and make washing your face a priority. Getting all the oils, makeup, sweat and grime off your face each evening is essential for allowing your skin to breathe and rejuvenate while you sleep.
Drink enough water. Hydration is the name of the game when it comes to SO many things – but for gorgeous, glowing skin water will rejuvenate from the inside out.
Exfoliation. While this one includes finding a balance between too much and too little, exfoliation is essential for sloughing off dry skin and letting the new soft skin shine through. Without enough exfoliation, your skin may appear dull and might not be as smooth as you’d like. But, a little exfoliation goes a long way – so stick to gentle exfoliation about twice a week.
Protection from the sun. There’s really nothing more important when it comes to all-over, head-to-toe skincare. Wearing sunscreen, clothing and hats to shield your skin from the sun’s harsh rays will help protect you from a whole heap of issues down the road – including harmful UV’s. Load your face up every day with sunscreen, even if it’s overcast or foggy!
Moisturize. While it might seem like overkill to go through a whole routine and skin care ritual, moisturizing is actually up there as one of the best things you can do for your skin. Using moisturizer helps your skin retain all that essential water that you’ve been working so hard to drink! Moisturized skin is less prone to dry patches, dullness and helps prevent wrinkles.
So, what’s your daily skincare routine? Have you been incorporating all these cardinal rules or skipping a few steps here and there?
