Social media is really changing the way we look at everything, even stress. You read that correctly. The Internet is full of cruel commenters and more evidence is pointing to the fact that social media isn’t exactly working in favor of your mental health. One app is trying to change all that.
Koko keeps you cool under stressful situations. It claims that its use is to “calm your mind.” It’s meant to be a positive space where you can get help and help others. Sometimes it’s hard to find a positive community online, but here’s a social media app that’s proving the opposite.
Here’s how Koko works: you have a problem. Let’s say it’s a conflict with a friend. You vent the details onto Koko and within minutes you get positive responses from people using the app. It’s like Whisper or YikYak, but for mental health. It helps you to refocus whatever is going on in your brain, while also creating an online community you can turn to.
Sounds great, right? I haven’t used the app, but I know that Koko’s users don’t exactly have degrees despite the fact that their taking on a therapist’s role. For me, this could be a negative to using the app. Overall I appreciate the concept. We need more online communities that focus on mental health!
Have you downloaded Koko? What do you think of the app?
