Workout Classes For People Who Hate Working Out

Between you and me, there are days that I simply don’t feel like working out. On those days, dragging myself to the gym or even to the yoga studio seems like the biggest task in the world. And if getting there is such a battle, I can only imagine what it would feel like once I’m inside. (Does this sound familiar?) I know I’m being a little dramatic here, but sometimes exercise is super fun and sometimes it just feels like work. Regardless of your level of fitness and your dedication to staying fit, I found that mixing it up every once in a while keeps me more active. Let’s take a look at workout classes for people who hate working out; i.e. fun ways to exercise for those of us who are craving a change from facing the treadmill one more day.

If ballet and dance are your scene, have you tried a barre class? Or better yet – a cardio barre class? Combining a little yoga, pilates and classic ballet moves, these classes will kick your butt in ways you never imagined.

What about turning date night into a fitness date? Head straight to a salsa lesson to burn some calories before cocktails and dinner. Salsa is so much fun, you won’t even notice for a minute that you’re actually exercising.

How about a little ultimate Frisbee? Sounds totally fun, right? Well, it’s high paced and comes in pretty close to burning nearly the same calories as going for a run. Curious about joining an ultimate Frisbee league near your house, check out USA Ultimate for details.

Since summer is nearly here, there’s no question that heading out for a hike is definitely an option. If you need a little break from the group classes and want to burn a bunch of calories while having some time alone with nature, fill up your backpack with heavy items (it will be just like using weights at the gym) and hit the trail.

You know you want to bust that old Hula Hoop out of the garage. Even though we didn’t know it when we were kids, it turns out hula hooping is an awesome workout for toning abs, back, arms and legs! Your whole body gets a workout. If you want a bit more of a challenge, you can find adult-size hoops at Hoopnotica along with how to find a hooping class near you.

Live near the beach or a beautiful park? Get out there and create your own bootcamp. Round up the girls and use body weight exercises like lunges and pushups to work on sculpting, while taking advantage of the wide-open space to get your cardio on. Head out there early in the morning and bring the dog!

How about you? Have you found any fun workout classes in your area that have helped make your fitness routine go from drab to fab? I’d love to hear!
