Remember how a few years ago it became a trend to do everything with attitude? It’s important to be able to differentiate between being fierce, strong and confident and having a bad attitude – the latter isn’t cute anymore. How influential your attitude can be in your life can be summed up in this Winston Churchill quote – ”Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” If you think your attitude can’t destroy your life, it’s time to get real and look at the bigger picture. Your attitude will make you or break you while dictating your entire existence.
Wednesday Wisdom: How a Bad Attitude Is Destroying Your Life
Attitude will dictate how successful you are, and how the people you come into contact with throughout your life behave towards you.
Attitude is who you are. A bad attitude makes you hugely unpopular in every aspect of your life. People will avoid those they associate with negative energy at all costs. Your friends and family may love you unconditionally, but a bad attitude will put an immense strain on relationships, friendships, your work life and your day-to-day life. A negative attitude towards yourself is equally detrimental.
A bad attitude often consists of unstable emotions, insecurity, defensiveness, and negativity. None of these traits are desirable.
If there are two colleagues in the running for a promotion, do you think the CEO of the company will promote the experienced employee with a bad attitude no one wants to work with, or the positive go-getter whose eager to learn and communicates well with others?
The good news is there are a few simple ways to turn a bad attitude around before it destroys your life:
#1. Speak only positive thoughts to yourself and others – yes, this can be extremely challenging at times, but speaking to ourselves with kind words is crucial to achieving success and happiness. Everyone is judged on who they are as a person by how they treat others. Building a reputation for having a bad attitude in the workplace will not do you any favors or push you up the ranks.
#2. Energy is contagious – surround yourself with positive people.
#3. Own it when you don’t act right – with friends or at work.
#4. Always be mindful of how you speak to others. How you treat others is how they will tackle you in return.
#5. Upgrade your life. Focus on being positive, and you will soon reap the benefits in every aspect of your life.
