Social media makes it a little too easy to share every detail about our personal lives without a second thought. But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should be spouting out every detail. Some things just don’t belong on social networks. Here are a few guidelines to keep you from regretting your next post.
What Not to Say on Social Networks
Don’t air your dirty laundry – It may be tempting to go off on a rant about the terrible day you’re having. But that post will be there long after the moment has passed. If you don’t want to remember that day forever, call a friend instead.
Don’t trash your boss – If you want to be taken seriously at work, refrain from talking negatively about your colleagues and superiors online. Regardless of your privacy settings, posts can easily get around to the wrong audience. If you have an issue at work, try dealing with HR or your boss directly.
Don’t discuss work – Aside from being unprofessional, you may get fired for sharing sensitive information. It may seem harmless at first, but you may be overlooking confidentiality practices by sharing details about work projects.
Don’t detail your breakups – Breakups are hard, frustrating, and messy. But it’s a better idea to keep them off social media and talk about them with a friend instead. Your next significant other won’t want to read about every detail of your last relationship.
Don’t over share – Not every breakfast, lunch or dinner needs to be commemorated on social media. Neither does every passing thought throughout the day. Keep your posts limited to the important stuff, and try to think about what you want to see on your newsfeed.
