It’s a great time on television for women with so many great shows led by females. I truly love turning on the TV after a long day and seeing actresses play professionals including even president of the United States! So what shows should you be watching? Here’s my list of favorite shows featuring strong women in the lead.
5 Can’t-Miss Shows With Strong Female Leads
#1. Jane the Virgin– Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is a studious young woman who found out one day that she was accidentally sperminated during a visit to the gynecologist. Throughout the series, she has her baby, marries the man of her dreams, and has a career. The show is a perfect example that things don’t always happen as they are planned, but it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your dreams.
#2. Younger– Ok, let’s keep it real with this one— Liza (Sutton Foster) has told a lot of lies. But at the end of the day, she’s doing what she has to do to make a living as a 40-year-divorcee with a daughter. With all her flaws, Liza is just trying to figure out who she is after all the drama she’s been through. Women don’t need to be perfect beings for themselves or for others.
#3. Veep– There’s a reason why this show has won so many awards! Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as a fictional vice president of the United States who later becomes President of the biggest office in the land. We didn’t get a woman in the Oval Office this year, but Selina Meyer gives us hope that it’s not too far off.

#4. Empire– The world hasn’t been the same since Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) arrived on primetime television and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The matriarch of the Lyon family made a major comeback after being in jail all those years and has carved herself spot at the top and she’ll fight anyone, including her ex-husband, if they get in her way.
#5. Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce– Divorce can be messy and Abby (Lisa Edelstein) let’s audiences join her throughout the process. She’s a mom, an author, and a friend to a group of fellow power women who aren’t afraid to make mistakes, fail, and then pick themselves up again. Real life is dirty, but it’s nice knowing your girls have your back.
