Is anyone else blown away by Ariel Winter’s bravery when discussing her recent breast reduction with the press? Such a private and personal story, the young Modern Family star has chosen to share her it with fans and the world. As she explained, she was pretty surprised at the young age of 15 when her “breasts blossomed to a 32F cup size.” (via CNN) “Now 17, the 5’1″ “Modern Family” star says she “feels like a new person” since getting a breast reduction in June, going down to a size 34D.”
We see so many stories of people getting plastic surgery to increase their breast size, so it’s very refreshing to hear the story of such a young and successful celebrity getting a breast reduction. Whether she had the reduction for her career as an actor or personally was a question had by many of us, but here’s what she told Glamour Magazine, “I got it for myself. I can’t even really put it into words about how amazing it feels to really feel right.”
Such a gorgeous and successful girl, Winter has found incredible fame as a mainstay on Modern Family, but has also certainly become known for her substantially endowed chest. While many of us dream about having larger chests or even save for years to get the surgical enhancements to make it happen, some women struggle with naturally large breasts. Making it tough to find clothing that fits and causing back and neck pain, for some women, large breasts are a real burden. Winter explained her challenges in a recent interview with Glamour, “[My chest size] made me feel really uncomfortable, because as women in the industry, we are totally oversexualized and treated like objects.”
Going out there and putting her story into the public eye is pretty inspiring. Rather than having fans and media speculate on what looks different, Winter is owning the whole process. And, for girls who struggle with large breasts at a young age – she feels your struggle – completely understanding the challenges, but also the physical pain.
“It started to hurt so bad that I couldn’t take the pain,” she said. “My neck was hurting so bad, and I actually had some problems with my spine. I had been discussing my chest with doctors for many years, but when I finally said, ‘I’m thinking of doing this,’ he said, ‘Your back is going to thank you so much.’ “(via Glamour)
From her spot on Modern Family to her role as the voice of Disney Junior’s Sofia the First, Winter is certainly a role model for young girls everywhere. She’s brought what is a private body issue into the public eye – making it easy to talk about and part of everyday conversation – and, that’s pretty impressive. What’s your take on breast reductions? Have you struggled with large breasts or known any friends who have dealt with similar issues?
