Ashton Kutcher Receives a Character Award

Ashton Kutcher Receives Character Award

Did anyone catch this sweet headline that was everywhere this past weekend? I love when I see things like this, showing me that even in Hollywood there are real true love relationships. According to Entertainment Tonight, Ashton Kutcher was recently honored with the Robert D. Ray Pillar of Character Award at the Ron Pearson Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. The award recognized Kutcher’s “good character as a role model” and he said his family had a lot to do with helping to shape his reputation.

He credited his wife, Mila Kunis, and their two kids for helping make him a good person. Here are a few heartwarming highlights from his acceptance speech:

Kutcher dedicated the award to his wife, “who kicks my ass on character every day. I thought I was awesome because I got up early and helped with the kids before she woke up and I let her sleep a little bit,” he recalled. “Then she’s like, ‘Well, now you’re gonna act tired? I do it every day.’ But it was a character moment, right? Because she’s right!”

Kutcher and Kunis, who tied the knot in July 2015, share two kids — 2-year-old daughter Wyatt and 4-month-old son Dimitri — and the proud papa said they are “the greatest, greatest lesson in character in my life. When my wife and I had these kids and we got to share that amazing, amazing, amazing honor, my first response was, I wanted to call my parents and say, ‘I’m sorry, because I never knew how much you loved me,'” he recalled.

He also credited his brother, Michael Kutcher, for teaching him about his capacity for love and acceptance.

“My brother was born with cerebral palsy and it taught me that loving people isn’t a choice and that people aren’t actually all created equal,” Kutcher shared, getting emotional. “The Constitution lies to us. We’re not all created equal. We’re all created incredibly unequal to one another, in our capabilities and what we can do and how we think and what we see. But we all have the equal capacity to love one another, and my brother taught me that.”

It’s so beautiful and refreshing to hear a celebrity talk about the ups and downs of life, the challenges we all face in our day-to-day world – just like you and me. They deal with children and marriage and family and physical challenge – we’re all human, that’s the bottom line. What a beautiful speech and tribute to family. Congrats, Ashton!
