Healthy Living: Body Positive Thinking

There’s nothing more important than being proud of who you are. No matter what – from body image to knowing your own smarts – you have to be your own advocate. It’s a tough world out there – one that we all struggle with – especially when it comes to body image. From the media to the way clothing is constructed to what we want our body to be, it’s a lot to live up to. But you know what? This is changing. Our favorite celebs have been stepping up and helping to drive body positive thinking in so many ways. From make-up free selfies (gotta love Nikki Taylor and Stacey London, below) to showcase their real selves to fighting back when publications go over the top with airbrushing and manipulating images.

The most recent headline turning heads was my girl JLo promoting body positivity with a dramatic reading of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” According to US Magazine, it’s “meant to encourage women to embrace their backsides — the singer-actress, 46, recites the lyrics to the throwback hip-hop jam as if she were sitting down for a table read with fellow thespians.” And, they’re right – she was both hilarious and inspiring. Watch for yourself:

We all know and love JLo for her friendly smile and her killer bod – and even though her life is so often in the limelight, she has an incredibly down to earth approach about her own body positivity. “I embrace who I am. I feel sexy, I feel youthful, I feel pretty sometimes! I don’t have a favorite feature [of my body] … but when you do a song like ‘Booty,’ you’d better own it!” (via US Magazine)

Who wouldn’t be inspired by Jlo’s contagious and positive energy? She’s right – it’s high time we all feel proud of who we are – curves and all. And, when it comes down to it, simply taking care of yourself will help drive those feelings of positivity and leave you feeling ready to tackle the world. How do you help drive positivity about your own body? Is it something you struggle with?
