The Sound of Music is such an iconic movie and I can’t think of anyone better to recreate the magic than country music sweetheart Carrie Underwood. Alongside an incredibly talented cast like Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti, Carrie will be performing the Julie Andrews’ 1965 classic live for millions of people.
Live television is always more interesting and the singer has confessed to a little bit of anxiety, saying, “I think being in kind of uncharted territory because nobody’s done, or hasn’t done in a very long time, what we’re doing for ‘The Sound of Music,’ so I think that will be a bit more nerve-racking.”
Watch the Von Trapp family come to life on NBC tonight at 8pm EST and tweet me your thoughts on the musical @lorenridinger xo
Carrie Underwood’s The Sound of Music is Live on NBC Tonight!
- On wanting to be a part of the project: “I had heard about the project long before I was ever whispered to maybe be a part of it. And I remember thinking, ‘Wow you’re going to do a musical live on TV. What?!’ That’s setting the bar. You’re reaching high and that’s ambitious.”
- On her love for the film: “My mom always loved the movie so much. It was actually one of my mom and dad’s first dates that they ever went on, so it was really special to her. Anytime it would come on TV we would get together mommy-daughter style and watch.”
- On having the support of Julie Andrews: “She’s so wonderful. She’s been so great to us and that means a lot. Whenever I do a cover of somebody’s song or whatever, I always get permission of the artist first. I’m like, ‘If you hate me, let me know and I won’t sing your song!’ So it was really really important for her to do that and just what a lovely person.”
