I was totally bummed to hear that Fashion’s Night Out is going on hiatus in the US this year! While it will still kick off in 19 other countries around the globe, it’s time for a little break here at home. Known as an evening to grab a few free cocktails, spot world-famous designers and celebs, all while shopping late into the night, Fashion’s Night Out has been one of my fave girl’s nights for the last couple of years.
Fashion’s Night Out Takes a Break in NYC
Fashion’s Night Out actually started back in 2009 when we were in the midst of a recession and New York City needed a serious economy boost. Bringing people together in a fun atmosphere that was more like a festival where you could pop in and out of your favorite shops. It was a great way to spot cool items, keep a list in your mind and go back later to purchase.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, “The sponsors of the event — Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and NYC & Co. — made the joint decision to go on hiatus so retailers and designers can focus their budgets on projects that are more in line with their specific objectives, rather than a big event on one night in September.”
I’m super sad that we’ll all be missing Fashion’s Night Out this year in New York City, but I totally get it. Have you ever been to FNO? In which city?
