Are you ready to have the time of your life…again? ABC’s all-star adaptation of the 1987 hit film “Dirty Dancing” finally has a promo trailer out there to get fans— new and old— excited. In the :30 clip you’ll see Abigail Breslin in the role of Frances “Baby” Houseman and Colt Prattes as Johnny Castle— roles made famous by Jennifer Grey and the late great Patrick Swayze. Fans of the original will notice that Kellerman’s has been brought back to life so viewers can be transported to the Catskills resort like the Houseman’s were thirty years ago.
First Look: “Dirty Dancing” Trailer
It looks like all the famous scenes have also been re-created including the lift practice in the lake, the moment where Johnny tells Baby’s dad “nobody puts Baby in a corner,” as well as the steamy final dance on the Kellerman’s dance floor when the pair dance to the Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley tune “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”
You’ll also briefly meet the rest of the incredible cast assembled including Katey Sagal, Sarah Hyland, Nicole Scherzinger, Bruce Greenwood, Debra Messing and Billy Dee Williams. While I understand that producers wanted a whole new cast for this remake, I feel like a lot of the fans of the original—who weren’t too fond of a remake—would’ve been on board had they had Grey or maybe even Kelly Bishop make a special appearance. It would’ve been a sweet nod to the romantic comedy and its legions of fans all over the globe.
The trailer definitely has more of a musical flavor than the original, so hopefully this version will stand on its own!
Tune-in to “Dirty Dancing” on May 24 at 8pm ET on ABC.
