Lupita Nyong’o cemented her red carpet royalty status years ago so it’s no surprise her look at the “Queen of Katwe” had heads turning both on the red carpet and via social media.
The Lancôme Ambassador collaborated with celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose, who made her look radiant on the red carpet with a luminous purple eye and a bold fuchsia lip to complement her Ellie Saab gown. Barose, who has also worked with Trace Ellis Ross, Abigail Spencer and Dawn-Lyen Gardner, focused on Lupita’s eyes and lips.

Here’s how to get lips and eyes like the Academy Award winner according to Barose:
EYES
- For a beautiful creamy, sheen-like finish, I dampened the eyeshadow brush and applied the lilac shade from the Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve Chérie over the entire upper eyelid. I then applied the mauve shade to the outer corners of the eye to add depth.
- I then traced Lancôme Grandiôse Lineracross the lash lines and finished the lashes with Lancôme Grandiôse Extrememascara to define the eye.
LIPS
- First, I prepped Lupita’s lips with Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm and let it set on her lips for a few minutes to hydrate, then wiped it off.
- Next, I applied Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge lipstick in Rose Lancôme (coming this fall)directly to the lips from the tube, which results in a creamier and smoother finish. The key is to apply from the center of the lips and out toward the corners, then fill in.
- I then blotted the color and applied the lipstick directly from the tube a second time. Last, I defined the lips with Lancôme Le Crayon lip liner for symmetry.
