If you haven’t heard the great news yet, Love Actually is currently shooting a sequel in London to benefit charity. As part of the Red Nose Day on March 24 in the U.K., the majority of the cast of the hit 2003 film will give updates about their characters in a 10-minute short. Those of us on this side of the pond will have to wait a bit longer. Red Nose Day in the U.S. airs on May 25 on NBC.
So far, Daniel (Liam Neeson) and his son Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) have shot new scenes for the short. Joining them along the River Thames is a grown-up version of Joanna (Olivia Olson)! It seems that young love might’ve triumphed after Sam made that huge gesture at the airport. Or they could have just stayed in touch and just be friends, but what would be the fun in that?

Rowan Atkinson, who played the annoying gift wrapper and jewelry salesman Rufus, was also spotted in front of the cameras. On day 2, he was photographed by producer Emma Freud at a local British supermarket called Sainsbury. His character wasn’t big in the original, so it seems like he’s back for a bit of fun with some red noses.

The most important images to come out of the film thus far are of Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon who are back as Prime Minister and his love Natalie. All we know about them so far is that they did indeed marry but not much else. I’d love to see Natalie hook up with Colin Firth’s Jamie! That could set-up an insane battle between the two that has never before been seen on the big screen. Oh wait, that already happened on one of my other favorite films Bridget Jones Diary and its sequel Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. It’s a good thing the big guys like Richard Curtis in charge of this film are much more creative at story editing than me!

Speaking of Firth, I can’t wait to find out what happened between his character Jamie and Aurelia (Lucia Moniz). They had one of the biggest love stories from the entire film and I can imagine they married, had a million babies, and lived happily ever after. Another necessary update is the love triangle between Juliet (Keira Knightley), Mark (Andrew Lincoln), and Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor). We need to see more of those cue cards!
Who were your favorite characters from the iconic film? Who are you most excited to see after all these years? Let me me know in the comments.
