My girl Jennifer Lopez has a new show coming to NBC this summer and I have all the details! Not only will she serve as a judge on “World of Dance,” but she’s also executive producing the new dance competition series set to premiere on May 8. Also serving as judges are “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer Derek Hough, actress Jenna Dewan Tatum and singer Ne-Yo.
From 10-11pm weekly, you’ll see the world’s elite dancers together to compete for $1 million. I’m excited that Jennifer helped to create this show about her first passion, dancing. I know she’s excited too!
“It’s like a dream come true and, like, the perfect job for me,” Jennifer said. “In a sense, we created literally the perfect show for me to be a part of. ‘World of Dance’ is a competition that’s been around, and I’ve known about them for years. I’ve actually poached choreographers from dancers that I’ve seen and innovative things. They’re known for that. So to bring that to television and then for NBC and all of us get together and decide to create an opportunity for dancers where they can be the stars, where they can create their own brand, where they can make a name for themselves, and then where they can make that type of money, which is nowhere in the world as a dancer can you make a million dollars, was for me the best thing that I could have ever done starting as a dancer myself.”
It helped Jennifer a lot to have had the experience working on “American Idol,” because she learned what elements are important to a successful competition show.
‘Having done [reality competition shows], I know that [chemistry] is key, that you have judges that are knowledgeable about what they are judging on and that they have a lot to offer, but they also have their own great personalities but also have a chemistry together. I think that’s the most important thing, and there has to be respect for one another and also just, a joy to be around each other.
We definitely have that. We were lucky. Again, I’ve been so fortunate in the projects that I’ve been doing over the past couple of years to be able to pull together my dream team for these projects and then everybody to be awesome and nice and smart and amazing. And this was ?? again, these were, like, three first choices. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, well, maybe we can get, or maybe we can get.’ It was like, “Can we get NE?YO? Can we get Derek Hough? Can we get Jenna Dewan Tatum? That’s what it was.”
So will we get to see Jennifer and the rest of the judges dance on the show as well?
“We talked about it this season,” she explained. “It doesn’t happen this season, but, you know, we definitely ?? and that was because of the crunch time of how we were doing the show. But I think it’s something we wanted to. We danced in the promo. We were, like, ‘Well, let’s just try to put something in the promo.’”
“World of Dance” will premiere May 8 on NBC.
