I think it’s an amazing thing when celebrities come forward with their own personal struggles. When a successful person is the public eye has endured something difficult, it truly helps others suffering in similar situations. We all want to know that we are not alone. Dancer and actress Julianne Hough came forward in an interview for Cosmopolitan Magazine (she is their February cover girl), sharing her story of child abuse with millions of readers.
Julianne lived in London to study dance at the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Arts when she was 10 years old; her parents were in Utah and she says the adults took advantage of the fact that her parents lived so far away.
Julianne Hough Reveals Child Abuse in Cosmo February Issue
“I was abused, mentally, physically, everything. I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer. I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy façade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love. {It became worse} when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl.”
The 24-year-old began reliving painful memories while filming her new movie Safe Haven, where she plays a woman who survives an abusive relationship.
She seems to be in a better place now, telling the magazine, “I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody. What’s past is past.”
