I truly can’t believe it’s already July. Somehow, we’re seven months into 2017 and Netflix has not slowed down. Each month, they offer a list of new TV shows and movies, many of which have been created exclusively for the streaming giant for those many nights of “Netflix and Chill.” So what can we expect this month?
On July 14, “Friends From College” starring Fred Savage, Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, and Jae Suh Park premieres. The series follows a group of friends from Harvard who are facing their 40’s. They’ll explore friendships, former romantic entanglements and how they’re balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past. The show is executive produced by Nicholas Stoller, who was behind “Neighbors,” “Neighbors: Sorority Rising,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and “Get Him to the Greek.” So you can probably expect for things to get a little crazy!

Another interesting series coming to Netflix is the Jason Bateman-led “Ozark” set to stream on July 21. It tells the story of a financial adviser Marty Bird (Bateman) who drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss. The show co-stars Laura Linney and Sofia Hublitz. Bateman will serve as executive director of this crime drama and will sit in the director’s chair for its freshman season.
“I’m going to [direct] the first two and probably the last two out of the ten,” Bateman told SlashFilm.com last year. “Just scheduling-wise there is no way to act in all of them and prep all of them, but that was the original intent — to basically direct a 600-page movie. I’m kind of a glutton for… But since I’ll be the EP as well, it’s kind of a producer’s medium, I’ll still be able to check all those boxes.”
If you love Chelsea Handler, she’s back with a lot of new guests in July including Ciara’s hubby Russell Wilson, Laila Ali, Aly Raisman, Lindsey Vonn, Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne and Jon Favreau. New episodes of “Chelsea” stream every Friday in July.
We told you about the new Lily Collins film “To The Bone” last month, and it will debut via Netflix on July 14. The film, co-starring Keanu Reeves, tells the story of a 20-year-old young woman named Ellen (Collins) who has spent many years battling anorexia. Determined to find a solution, her dysfunctional family agrees to send her to a group home for youths, which is led by a non-traditional doctor.
Other notable titles include the highly lauded “Lion” starring “Slumdog Millionaire” star Dev Patel on July 9, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” on July 18 and “Bad Santa 2” on July 8. Season 3 of the popular “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce” will stream on July 18 and new episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” on July 19.
