We’re living during a time when Hollywood loves to reboot so many of our favorite TV and films. So it’s no surprise to hear that the popular 1980’s procedural “Miami Vice,” which launched the career of Don Johnson for his portrayal of Detective Sonny Crockett. The man behind the reboot is none other than action star Vin Diesel whose production company One Race Television scored a first-look deal with Universal Television in December 2015.
“Miami Vice” Reboot Headed to NBC
There’s not much news as of yet to report on this project other than it has been in the works for a few months now, according to The Hollywood Reporter. One other tidbit is that Diesel does not plan to star on the series, his biggest for television thus far.
Michael Mann’s “Miami Vice” aired from 1984 to 1990 starring Johnson in all his pastel glory alongside partner Philip Michael Thomas in the role of Detective Ricardo Tubbs. Throughout the years it aired, many now big name actors got their start on the series including Jimmy Smits, Edward James Olmos, Ben Stiller, Bruce Willis, Steve Buscemi and even Julia Roberts.
Other franchises that have been rebooted as of late include “Lethal Weapon,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Macgyver,” and “Twin Peaks.”
