Nothing will ever take the pain away following last month’s horrible Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting, however the president revealed his plan earlier today in hopes of stopping a massacre of this magnitude from ever happening again. President Obama and Vice President Biden created the comprehensive proposal after a number of meetings with over 200 groups involved in gun violence issues.

The action called for the most serious set of gun control laws in two decades, asking that:
- Universal background checks on all gun buyers
- Renewed ban on military-style assault weapons
- Restricting ammunition magazines to no more than 10 rounds
- New programs devoted to school safety and mental health services
In attendance at the ceremony included children who wrote letters about gun violence to the White House, as well as family members of victims in the shooting in Newtown, CT.
The president was quoted saying that while no law can “prevent every senseless act, if there is even one life that can be saved, we’ve got an obligation to try it. This is our first task as a society. Keeping our children safe.”
