This upcoming photo project that’s making headlines definitely piqued my interest when I learned the whole project started on a whim. A new photo series by Manhattan photographer Stacey Baker (who also happens to be an Associate Editor at the New York Times), features the legs of women in New York.
Baker has photographed the legs of nearly 300 women in NYC for a personal photography project. She calls the series CitiLegs, some of which are also pictured on her Instagram account. In a recent interview with Mail Online, Baker revealed some interesting facts about the project. Get a glimpse below and for the full story, read here.
Stacey Baker’s CitiLegs Photo Series in NYC
- On how the project got started: During a chance encounter at the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, “I was passing through the lobby of the hotel and saw this woman with delicate legs wearing a pretty black coat. For some reason, I thought it would make a nice picture. I took a few more around New York and one in London. There was something about the pictures that I found interesting.”
- On what Baker looks for in a pair of legs: “I simply look for legs that interest me, it could be the shape of a woman’s legs or her stance or what she’s wearing or some combination.”
- On what the photographed women have to say: “Some women want to be tagged, others like to stay anonymous. I’ll email them a picture or two if they like. Some are flattered or just think it’s a cool idea. After seeing the pictures of their legs, any number of the women have said, “Wow, they look great,” and that’s nice to hear.”
The photos capture all shapes and sizes of legs, showing off shoes, boots, tattoos – you name it – but for Baker it’s all about the personality that shines through. What do you think of the (very unique) CitiLegs photo series?
