One of my favorite things to do over holiday break is catch up on movies. I know many of you will also have visitors staying with you, so you’ll want to stock-up on some of the best DVD releases in December along with many of your favorite holiday classics. I’m going to include great options for all types of situations. So whether you’ll have little ones sitting in front of the TV or a girl’s night in, you’ll have plenty of options for laid-back fun.
The Top 7 DVD Releases in December
- The Secret Life of Pets – This is a top pick of the month for family fun for people of all ages. The animated comedy, which hits stores on December 6, features the voices of Lake Bell, Ellie Kemper, Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart. Do you ever wonder what your pets get into when you leave home for work or school? This movie will show give you a hilarious behind-the-scenes look into their adventures and antics.
- Suicide Squad – The critics tore apart this film that was one of the most talked about releases of the year. But you might want to give it another chance since the DVD release features a lot of scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. On December 13, watch Will Smith, Jared Leto, Jay Hernandez, and Margot Robbie hit the streets in this PG-13 rated film.
- Bridget Jones’s Baby – Your favorite singleton is back and she’s in quite a pickle yet again! But that’s the fun of watching Bridget Jones and her adventures. Save this film, releasing on December 13, for a night in with the girls and have everyone bring a bottle of wine while trying to figure out if Mark or newcomer Jack is the father of her baby. Poor girl has to pick between Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey! She has my sympathy.
- The Magnificent Seven – Ok, it’s time to pick a flick that’s action packed and perfect for all the men in your life to enjoy. On December 20th, you can pick-up this western film starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio. It tells the story of a town desperate to get rid of a greedy industrialist who recently seized control of everything. They call bounty hunter Sam Chisolm (Washington), who recruits an eclectic group of gunslingers to rid the town of the baddies.
- Jason Bourne – Matt Damon is back and ready for action on December 6. In the latest installment of the Jason Bourne films, you’ll visit the character 10 years after he walked away from the agency. Bourne tries to stay away but before you know it, he has been lured out from the shadows for new adventures. Although it’s not good for the little ones to watch, it’ll make for a great night in with the adults.
- Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Tim Burton did it again with this December 13 DVD release. Based on the best-selling novel with the same name, the film tells the story of a boy named Jake who discovers clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times. The PG-13 rated film won’t work for little ones but it’ll be a great watch for the older kids and adults.
- Storks – The little ones are very important to me so I wanted to add one more fun animated film especially for the kids. Storks will arrive in stores on December 20 and it tells the story of storks who instead of delivering babies, now delivers packages for a giant internet retailer. It features characters voiced by Andy Samberg, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, and Kelsey Grammer.
