Sometimes, I keep certain foods in my fridge and pantry for a really long time. Everyone does it! I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same ketchup bottle in my fridge since 2014. We all have certain food items in our kitchens that have been there for way past their expiration date. Although, there are certain food items that have shorter expiration dates after opening so it gets a little confusing. Don’t know what those foods are? No worries, below I’ve got some timetables to help you out and keep your food items in check. Read on to learn more.
#1. Hot Sauce- Do you keep hot sauce in your bag like Beyoncé? Consider putting that hot sauce in the fridge as it lasts about six months in the fridge after opening.
#2. Peanut Butter- I love keeping peanut butter in my pantry. It’s a delicious snack. Can you blame me? If you’re the type who keeps one jar of peanut butter in your pantry for over two to three months, consider throwing it out.
#3. Mayo- Mayo only stays fresh after a month after opening. Those jars are huge so remember you only have one month to finish it all.
#4. Ketchup- I guess it’s time for me to throw out that ketchup bottle I’ve been keeping in my fridge. Six months in the fridge is the limit after opening one of these babies. Throw them out!
#5. Mustard- Mustard is another story. It lasts for a whole year after opening so this is a condiment you can keep around for a while.
#6. Jam- Yum! I love jam and the good news is, my favorite jar can stay in the fridge for just a little longer. These babies last up to twelve months after opening.
#7. Olive Oil- Can you believe olive oil has got an expiration date? Yup, Three to five months and then it’s time to get rid of it.
