Catherine Malandrino at Fashion Week Fall 2013
French designer Catherine Malandrino’s collection from Fashion Weekin February had me in shock. The presentation was held in Chelsea in a large, all-white studio with a minimalistic but fashion-forward and edgy vibe. Guests such as Nigel Barker and Chloe Bridges were in attendance, among the other fashionably sophisticated. The presentation was inspired by French Art Deco, specifically Ruhlmann, whose art is rare butintriguing. Malandrino’s line was influenced by womenswear and the conceptof allowing a woman to look and feel like a lady with a few key pieces, includingstructured dresses, tailored pants, and simple and low-key leather jackets. Highlights from the collection are poncho type jackets, jumpsuits with eyelet pattern, deep colors like forest green, burgundy, and the ever so classic black. The collection stood out to me because it is very rare nowadays to see pieces that are ready to wear vs. just couture on runways and in presentations, but Catherine finds a way to constantly make her clothes wearable and sophisticatedfor the working woman. There is not one item that doesn’t stand out to me, and I can’t complain!
