Become the personal assistant you’ve always wanted – for yourself. Take charge and organize your life, no matter how disorganized you might be. Implement these five simple organization tips to stay organized and slay whatever comes your way.
5 Organization Tips for the Chronically Disorganized
1. You Have as Many Hours in a Day as Beyoncé.
Take control of your time, then organize it. Use a good old fashioned planner and to-do list or take things digital with your Google Calendar and Reminders. Set reminders for yourself and keep yourself accountable. Have you accomplished what you planned to by the time your reminder notification starts ringing? If not, stay focused and get back to work. Discipline yourself, plan, and avoid procrastinating at all costs.
2. Designate a “Home” for Everything You Own (That You Frequently Lose).
Give your keys, your wallet, and your phone a special “home,” so when you get home, you know exactly where to find everything you need. Hang a hook for your keys, place your wallet and phone on the kitchen counter, and make sure always to put them in the same spot. If you need a digitally-savvy solution, get a Tile Mate Bluetooth tracker for each of your often-misplaced possessions.

3. Plan, Prioritize, Follow Through.
Plan each day of the week (I like to do this the night before, and make tweaks in the morning), and prioritize your list of to-dos. Check off your list as you go, and make sure you’re following through on each daily item. If something more urgent comes up, figure out what you can push to the next day if you need to, but don’t push something back several days. The follow-through is key to successful planning and execution.
4. Choose Joy with the KonMari Method.
Declutter your life regularly, and evaluate things based on if they bring you joy or not. This way, you keep what you need and can simplify your life on an ongoing basis. Instead of throwing everything away, donate to local women’s shelters or sell your items on eBay and save the money for a dream trip you’ve wanted to take.
5. Eliminate Time Wasters and Fill Your Life with Purpose.
First off, evaluate how you are spending your time, and of that time spent, what things you are wasting time on. Are you spending 6 hours per day watching TV? Maybe you’re spending every spare second checking social media? Write down all of the time-wasting activities in your life and set daily and weekly goals to reduce the time you spend doing them. Start small, and you’ll slowly build a long-lasting habit, and you will find you have much more free time to spend doing things that truly bring you joy and give you purpose.
