Jennifer Lopez. Jenny from the Block. JLo. Iconic performer. Mesmerizing dancer. Fantastic actress. Red carpet slayer. Beloved mom. A true friend for life. She’s known both by many names and many talents, and I am proud to call her my best friend. This week’s sartorial focus is on Jennifer’s amazing red carpet looks throughout the years.
5 Images Proving Why Jennifer Lopez Is a Red Carpet Sensation
2000, 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, Los Angeles, CA
THE DRESS. This is quite possibly the most iconic dress ever worn on a red carpet. Eighteen years later, people are still talking about the sexy green Versace dress that left little to the imagination. Jennifer was ahead of her time, using fashion to make a statement about confidence and being completely fearless in the process. She paved the way for women to embrace their bodies and dress for themselves, however, they felt sexy and beautiful. This dress and this moment are so empowering.
2009, 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Beverly Hills, CA
In 2009, Jennifer wore a slinky golden Marchesa gown to the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. She practically looked like a Golden Globe statuette as she owned the red carpet. This look is equal parts old Hollywood glamour and modern day sexiness.
2014, 31st Annual MTV Video Music Awards, Inglewood, CA
The 31st Annual MTV Video Music Awards featured yet another of JLo’s iconic looks: a sparkly silver, skin-baring Charbel Zoe gown. She can pull off anything and look like a million bucks while doing it. Absolutely flawless.
2016, 73rd Golden Globe Awards, Beverly Hills, CA
Yellow is a tricky color for most people but Jennifer, of course, hits a sartorial home run in the Giambattista Valli cape gown she wore back in 2016. She looks so incredible in the statement-making dress that it almost overshadows the 200 carats and millions of dollars-worth of Harry Winston diamonds she is wearing. Almost.
2018, Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, New York City, NY
Most recently, JLo rocked French design house Balmain for the 2018 Met Ball in New York City. Creative Director Olivier Rousteing designed a structured gown featuring a crystal encrusted cross over the chest and bodice, with a black feather statement-making train that was entirely on par with the theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
