In the heart of Coral Gables, you’ll find the Anton Acero Beauty Studio where celebrity stylist Mario Anton helps men and women unleash their inner beauty. Mario, who serves as Dove Hair’s Hispanic Hairstylist, hosted the brands beauty suite at We All Grow 2016 in California where we caught up with him to talk about the latest trends.
“I identify a lot with Dove because of their messaging,” he said. “I’m all about ‘girl power,’ promoting good self-esteem, and being yourself. The slogan of my salon is, ‘the beautiful experience of being yourself’ and it’s very similar to what Dove stands for. It’s not about changing your style or changing who you really are but it’s all about empowering your beauty. I love being a part of that process.”
People of all ages are fans of all the different hair color trends like balayage, ombre, and rainbow hair. Many brands have box versions you can buy at your favorite mass-market stores but Mario recommends you go see a professional.
“They can help you achieve anything that you’re looking to do to your hair. They can help you find how to make a trend work with your features specifically in mind. Make sure to talk to them about your lifestyle as well. Your profession and the amount of upkeep are things to consider when committing to a drastic change.”
If your schedule is way too hectic to maintain that type of look, there are other ways you can change up your look. Mousse was your best friend in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and now it’s back!
“Everything started two years ago when Beyoncé wore that wet hair look to the Grammy’s. She also wore her hair curly in a couple of videos using the wet look and fans went crazy! This is what helped bring back mousse. Everyone wants to have a product that can quickly make you look good.”
“Mousse works the best on wavy or curly hair. It helps to give a nice defined shape to the curl. There are a lot of options on the market and it’s best to note that the formulas that exist today are not the same that existed in the ‘90s. Today you will get the volume without leaving you with crispy curls or white residue behind. Now you won’t find alcohol in any mousse that used to dry up the hair too much.”
So what else can we expect as far as trends for 2016? “Right now natural textures are very popular and you can expect that to stick around for some time,” he said.“Soft waves and curly hair are really popular right now. There’s also a return to the ‘70s with soft, long hair and heavy bangs. Disco curls are also back in business.
Pixies are still quite popular but people are going more for classic bobs. You can mix it with heavy bangs or you can leave it as a classic straight bob. It’s all going back to the times when Vidal Sassoon made that look popular.”
