I’m so excited that my daughter Amber is expecting the arrival of her second little one. She’s a gorgeous mommy with incredible style. Which is why I felt so inspired to share some tips for maternity fashion. Those months of growing a baby bump can be a little tricky when it comes to trends. To keep your fashion on point, check out these quick tips for dressing the belly.
Maternity Style: 5 Tips for Dressing the Belly
1) BELT THAT BUMP – Going through the first few months of pregnancy can be tricky in terms of outfit choices because your regular clothes will likely still fit but not necessarily relay that you’re pregnant. To proudly show off your new curves, grab a skinny belt and wear it just above the belly. Something with embellishments adds a really nice touch and makes you look pulled together. Belted dresses or wrap dresses also grow with you.
2) LOOK FOR LARGER SIZES – You don’t have to only resort to maternity clothing to pull off a chic look. Dresses with an empire waist, larger dress and pant sizes, and tops with a forgiving cut all wear well during those in-between months.
3) THE POWER OF BLACK TIGHTS – When jeans and pants stop fitting against all better efforts, discover your new wardrobe staple: black tights. Sure, there are belly bands and such to make your existing pieces work. But the truth is that if you’re looking for straight ease and comfort, balck tights and leggings can be dressed up or down by adding a basic tee or sweater, or even your husband’s favorite shirt. The very best part is that they’re fairly cheap and easy to replace if you outgrow them.
4) ACCESSORIES ALWAYS FIT – When all else fails, the great thing is that no matter how big your baby bump gets, accessories will ALWAYS fit. Pile on your favorites or wear one standout piece. The choice is yours. A little glitz should help make you feel better about the look right away.
5) ROCK YOUR OWN STYLE – Don’t abandon your regular look just because you’re growing a person in there. Embrace your sense of style and just tweak it to your current situation. Just remember that comfort and ease are the key to whatever you wear at this point. If the look isn’t perfect, cut yourself some slack. You’ll be back to your old self in a few months. Enjoy that mommy glow while it lasts!
