One of the nicest things about spring is how everything just seems to bloom. From flowers to fragrances, there is a bright, beautiful romance in the air. As you can see from this photo, I adore perfume. As Coco Chanel has been quoted to have said, “A women who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” And while that may be a little on the dramatic side, I do feel that perfume is always that perfect last step before heading out the door.
I keep this tray with my favorite scents on a small table in the bathroom, so the options are always easy to view. And sometimes, I like to wear a combination of scents to create my own unique fragrance. I wear Chanel, Guerlain, and a few other favorites. But Jo Malone is a great line that’s meant to be layered. So here are a few tips on how to make a scent your own with some tips using their range as a basis. Above all, have fun!
Beauty 101: How to Layer Fragrances
Step 1: Choose your favorite fragrance. The trick here is to determine whether you enjoy citrus, fruity, floral, spicy or woody fragrances. If you’re not sure, I highly suggest visiting your local Jo Malone fragrance bar and really trying out various scents until you find the one that fits you best. They’re all lovely, but fragrance is a personal thing and you should only wear what makes you feel good.
Step 2: Choose your combination and determine whether you’d like to make it a warmer scent or go with a fresher approach. For example, when I’m in Miami, I opt for a fresher scent like Gardenia or Jasmine. But if I’m in cooler climates, I consider warmer scents, like Amber, during the fall and winter months.
Step 3: Layer these on their own by spraying one on lightly over the other or use a scented moisturizer as a ‘carrier’ for the fragrance combo. Considering the humidity we all experience over the summer, I sometimes prefer to keep the moisturizer strictly for bedtime. But I look forward to combining other warmer scents once the weather cools.
To customize your own signature Jo Malone scent, try their layering app. The possibilities are seemingly endless. Do you have a signature scent combo? Would love to know how you pair them!
