Do you ever feel like you just cannot get away from your electronic devices? Like the only option is to turn them all off (smartphone included!) and lock them away to give yourself a break for just a few hours. We are an incredibly connected society these days, which in many ways is a good thing, but for many of us also means we have an addiction to scrolling our phones, computers, tablets with no real break to simply enjoy life. No time to stay focused on the moment and the people we’re with. While I am a huge proponent of social media (you know I love it!), I am also a huge fan of taking a break. Unwinding with my family and leaving my smartphone behind for a few hours to simply be together and enjoy one another. If you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate what’s coming on March 4th – The National Day of Unplugging. If it’s new to you, here’s a look at the details:
Hosted and sponsored by Reboot, an organization that affirms the values of Jewish traditions and creates new ways for people to make them their own, The National Day of Unplugging is an “outgrowth of the Sabbath Manifesto, an adaption of our ancestors’ ritual of carving out one day per week to unwind, unplug, relax, reflect, get outdoors, and connect with loved ones.”
“The National Day of Unplugging is a 24 hour period – running from sundown to sundown – and starts on the first Friday in March. You can, sign the Unplug pledge and start living a different life: connect with the people in your street, neighborhood and city, have an uninterrupted meal or read a book to your child.”
If that sounds like a great option to you, and something you’d really love to be a part of, here’s how you can participate.
