It’s essential to remind ourselves that feelings are temporary; this timeframe is a bad day or phase, not a bad life. Don’t let your emotions consume you; don’t let depression win. Here are a few ways to help lift your spirits.

#1. Fight the feelings.

When we feel down, our minds can take over our bodies and make us feel like we don’t want to get up and go anywhere, or do anything. Fight the feelings. Push yourself to do something; go for a walk, go to the gym, or even do a workout at home if you don’t feel like being around people. This small triumph is a small step towards reminding yourself you’re a fighter.

#2. Do what makes you happy.

Whatever makes you feel happy, do it. Do it now. Releasing feel-good endorphins will help make you feel alive again.

#3. Call in the girls.

No one is quite as good at helping us put things in perspective and talk or laugh our stresses and troubles away like your closest girlfriends.

#4. Submerge yourself in nature.

If you live somewhere hot, head to the beach or pool to soak up some spring sun. Spending time in the sun around moving water is proven to lift our energy levels and raise our spirits. If you live in a colder climate, head out for a walk. Nature has a fantastic way of bringing a sense of calm where there is chaos.

#5. Write it down.

If verbalizing your feelings isn’t one of your strengths, write them down. You’ll be amazed how liberating it will feel when you dump all of those heavy, negative emotions onto paper.
